A Beginner’s Guide to Discreet Storage

Dry, separate, dust-free and private. Four words that cover most of it.

Storage is where products age well or badly, and where privacy in a shared home is won or lost. It is not complicated.

Dry, and separate

Products must be completely dry before they are put away; damp storage is how porous materials deteriorate. Keep products separate from each other, ideally in individual breathable pouches, because some soft materials react when stored in contact for long periods.

Dust, heat and light

Silicone attracts dust, which is harmless but unpleasant. Heat and direct sunlight degrade most materials and all batteries. A drawer, a lined case or a pouch in a wardrobe is ideal; a windowsill is not.

Privacy in a shared home

A lockable case protects against casual curiosity, which is usually all that is needed. Choose one with interior dimensions that fit your longest product, a lining, and space for a charging cable so nothing is left on a bedside table. Note the combination somewhere safe.

For travel, a padded pouch that looks like a toiletry bag is unremarkable if luggage is opened. Learn the travel lock on any rechargeable product before you pack.
