How to Clean and Dry Products Properly

The basic routine

Wash with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap, or a cleaner stated as suitable for the material. Rinse thoroughly. Dry completely with a clean, lint-free cloth and then air, before storing. Clean before first use and after every use.

By material

Nonporous silicone, glass, steel and ABS can be washed thoroughly and, for non-electronic silicone, glass and steel, some manufacturers permit boiling or dishwasher sterilisation. Follow their instructions rather than assuming; a product with a motor should never be boiled.

Porous materials such as TPE need particular care: wash after every use, turn sleeves inside out where the design allows, dry completely and apply a renewing powder if the manufacturer recommends one. Replace when sticky or discoloured.

Electronics, ports and contacts

Water-resistant products should be washed under a tap with the port cover closed, never submerged. Fully waterproof products can be submerged, but keep charging contacts dry before connecting a cable. If in doubt, wipe rather than rinse.

What not to use

Avoid alcohol, bleach, harsh detergents, fragranced soaps and anything abrasive. Do not share products between people without cleaning between uses, and consider a barrier for anything porous that is shared. Persistent irritation after use is a reason to stop and, if it continues, to consult a professional.
